Summary

Smoking is associated with a range of costs to the economy in general and the public finances, which arise due to the health risks associated with tobacco consumption and the associated increases in mortality and morbidity for the smoking population. This report looks at the economic impact of consumers switching from buying tobacco, to buying other goods and services in the economy, as smoking prevalence falls.
